Thanks to everyone in this forum for their trip reports and recommendations. I have decided to visit Huatulco for the 1st time in late Oct. Are there any vendors, tours, etc that I should avoid at all costs? Avoid the tours booked thru the hotels like the bay tour that packs you onto a double deck boat with other people. Instead go with one of the guys on the beach for fishing, snorkelling, sightseeing, etc. Sammie touched on the one thing, the only thing, that negatively affected us on our last trip I seriously HATE those things!!!!
Now,to be fair to our boat captain it was a nasty storming day at sea and we were very limited to what beach we could get to Gong is late October is great The only thing you should not do in Huatulco is stay on the resort premises the whole time you are there.
The price of taxi's down there is a gift. They may be small cars and a little run down, but they are fun and quick. I'm itching to get back to Huatulco. We spent time looking at land and condo's and everyone is very friendly and laid back. Huatulco is a little gem in Mexico. I saw the party barges when we were out and they are distracting and not recommended for Huatulco.
We have taken the party boats in Cancun and Cuba , and frankly, they are way overrated. We took the day trip with Hurricane Divers and Pauline's lunch was a highlight. A magic moment happened without planning when I went to sit down in the trees just off the beach from the lunch area. I looked back from the shade to see my wife sitting on a driftwood log, laughing, eating and drinking with our new found friends, also with the secluded bay behind her and the panga gently rocking in the water.
What a beautiful sight and I have pictures of that scene to remind me of that fantastic day. So please, do yourself a favour, pay the bucks and get off the resort and see how beautiful Hautulco is from the ocean. Even tho Huatulco is very laid back,. OK, I will be a little more practical, and give you the same advice for any other part of Mexico , or Canada. Don't engage in the sex trade, or cruise the bars looking to pick up locals.
